Frequently asked question

Which parts of the residency process in Paraguay go through a notary?

Short answer

Mainly the certified copies of documents, such as your passport, that Paraguay's immigration office (Dirección General de Migraciones) asks for. Also the power of attorney, if someone else handles the process for you, and buying property or setting up a company, if you are going to invest in Paraguay.

What is done at the notary's office

  • Certified copies of your passport and of other documents the immigration office (Migraciones) asks for.
  • Certification of signatures on statements or letters you have to submit.
  • A power of attorney so that a lawyer or an agent (gestor) can handle the process on your behalf.
  • The deed for buying property or forming a company, if you invest in Paraguay.

What is not done at the notary's office

  • The apostille of your documents from your country of origin, which is done in your country before you travel.
  • The translation of documents that are not in Spanish, which is done by a registered public translator (traductor público matriculado).
  • Filing with Paraguay's immigration office (Dirección General de Migraciones).
